Out of craze for food and the art of Chacuterie, the Aphrodisiac Shack Concept was born. We produce fare that is unique to South Africa.
We are a small concern with a family sized staff compliment but with the success of our products we will be growing into the international market. We are putting in place training programmes for our staff by working alongside the Fairtrade Organisation. 2% of our income will go to the enlistment of our staff in the form of home skills programs and general enrichment training not directly linked to the workplace, which will give our staff a good cross section of skills.
Here you will find a variety of smoked products that comes with a distinctive taste of something that is very exceptional when it comes to smoked foods. I’m sure you will find my smoked butter and smoked olive oil a little bit intriguing but my clients love it!
The Aphrodisiac Shack Smokehouse is situated on the bank of the Theewaterskloof Dam 3km outside Villiersdorp in the Western Cape. I have been in the catering industry for the last 20 years and this is the starting point of a lifelong dream to own my own restaurant. Currently we are smoking white cheddar that is produced by the Caledon Dairy. We also smoke a Stanford which is produced by Klein River Cheese Company, who is well known for their award winning Gruyere.
My main focus is on the art of cold smoking a range of cheeses. This is something I learnt during the ten years spent in England located just outside the village of Cheddar in Somerset. The cold smoking method I currently practice has been modified to the warm climate we experience in the Western Cape, South Africa.
All the products we smoke are done in the age old traditional way.

Come and join us for an memorable picnic experience! We provide you with your own picnic basket, blankets, plates, cutlery and freshly baked bread of the day and a complimentary bottle of wine from Stettyn Cellar or bottled water or grapetiser or appletiser of your choice.
Our opening times are from 11:00 – 16:00 7 days a week.
It happens on the first Friday of every month from October to April (Weather Permitting).
There are various tables, straw bales and seats set around a roaring fire, live music, and the still waters of the Theewaterskloof Dam provide an atmospheric backdrop. The aromas of freshly prepared foods such as pizza, German sausages, Sushi, hamburgers, pancakes, Indian food, and much more fill the air and entice hungry visitors.
The market opens at 18:00 with a R10.00 entrance fee per adult.

Villiersdorp, is a peaceful village graced by oak trees and surrounded by fruit and wine farms.The village is in a valley surrounded by the pretty Waterval - and Baviaans mountains and lies next to the magnificent Theewaterskloof Dam, South Africa’s 7th largest dam.
Villiersdorp is situated just an hour away from Cape Town. There are many interesting things to see in and around the area.
