The Gallery at Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate is privileged to present the contemporary exhibition, 'How To', by eminent artist and academic, Emma Willemse and distinguished artist, Hester Viles.
The title of the show references the practice of acquiring instant knowledge at the press of a button, through the use of technology. This means of attaining knowledge has become a dominant practice in our society and assumes that knowledge can be acquired as effortlessly as a consumer item. The artists explore the conflicting issues of real and virtual knowledge in a playful yet critical way, with artworks executed in a wide range of materials, techniques and formats.
Emma Willemse will deliver the opening address.
The Shop at the Gallery, will showcase the avant-garde, prêt à porter collection by Dillon and Jada, which include a range of Vivienne Westwood shoes.

Franschhoek Christmas Craft Market

After the great success of last year, the 7th annual Franschhoek Christmas Market in the Town Hall in the main road of Franschhoek, is about to take place.
The market will stretch over 10 days from Friday 28 October to Sunday 6 November 2011. The market hours are daily from 09h00 – 18h00. On Sunday 30 October and 6 November 2011 the market will be open from 10h00 – 16h00. Crafters from all over the Western Cape will exhibit their handcrafted products. Come and have a very unique shopping experience – buy some very unique gifts from garden furniture for Barbie, African games to chocolates for a sweet tooth – something to tickle every fancy.
Spend the day, enjoy light meals / something to drink in beautiful Franschhoek. Lots of free parking under shady trees are available, as well as clean rest rooms for your comfort.
Profits from this event are used for specific projects. With the proceeds from the first market we restored the old dilapidated Voigt House in Dirkie Uys Street to its current condition and offered it free of charge to the ACVV (the social workers of Franschhoek). The 2008 profit went to Fleur de Lis, the ACVV Home for the Aged in Franschhoek.

Now in its fifth successful year of running, the Franschhoek ‘Magic of Bubbles’ Cap Classique and Champagne Festival will be welcoming visitors from around the country over the weekend of 2nd to 4th December to this annual social calendar highlight.
Sponsored by Investec Specialist Bank, this popular festival will have a new fashionable twist with a black and white emphasis.
Taste some of France’s best Champagnes alongside the finest Cap Classiques to emerge from the wine cellars of South Africa. With the winemaking method virtually the same, it comes down simply to the terroir and skill of the winemakers, something which South African winemakers have mastered throughout the years.
The centrepiece of the festival is the grand marquee situated on the sprawling lawns surrounding Franschhoek’s famous Huguenot Monument, where Cap Classique and Champagne stalls will be interspersed with local restaurants offering delicious delicacies to match, and live entertainment setting the tone for the celebrations.
This year the festival will take full advantage of the Cape’s glorious summer evenings, with the festival open from 6pm to 10pm on Friday the 2nd, and then between 12pm and 5pm on both the 3rd and 4th.
You’ll also receive a complimentary tasting glass and booklet of tasting coupons. Additional tasting coupons will be available for purchase. Children under 18 years of age will be allowed free entry to the festival.
